Our Ummah
Privacy
What we do with your information. Last updated 27 September 2026.
Who we are
Our Ummah is a project of AR Projects CIC, a community interest company registered in England and Wales, company number 13801760. AR Projects CIC is responsible for the information described here. You can reach us at admin@ourummah.uk.
What we hold about you
If you give to Our Ummah or sponsor a child, we hold:
- Your name, email address and, if you give it, your phone number.
- What you gave, when, and what it was for.
- If you sponsor a child: which child, when it started, and which months have been paid.
- If you have a sponsor page: the name you asked us to greet you by, and whether you have opened each report.
- Any message you send us.
We never see or hold your card details. Payments are taken by Stripe on their own secure pages. We only receive a record that a payment succeeded.
Why we hold it
To take your gift and give you a receipt, to tell you what your giving has done, to run the sponsorship you asked for, and to keep the accounts a company has to keep. We rely on performing the arrangement you entered into with us, and on our legitimate interest in running the charity properly and keeping honest records.
We do not sell your information, and we never pass it to anyone for their own marketing.
Who else sees it
- Stripe takes the payments and holds the card details.
- Supabase stores our records, and Railway runs our website.
- Have I Been Pwned helps us check that the password you choose has not already been leaked in somebody else's data breach. Your password is never sent to them: we send only the first five characters of a one-way fingerprint of it, which cannot be turned back into your password and matches hundreds of others at the same time.
- Our own team, and only the part each person needs. Our staff in Uganda can see the children they look after. They cannot see any money or any donor's details.
If you sponsor a child
Your sponsor page shows you real information about a real child: their photo, their story, how they are getting on at school, and how they are. That child and their guardians trusted us with it.
Please keep it to yourself and your household. Do not post a sponsored child's photo, name or details on social media or anywhere public. If you would like to share something about your sponsorship, ask us first and we will give you something you can share.
The children
We publish a photo and a short story for children who are waiting for a sponsor, so that someone can choose to help them. We record who agreed to that for each child. We never publish a child's health details, anything to do with their safety, or their exact address. If a guardian asks us to take a child down, we do it straight away.
How long we keep it
We keep records of giving for as long as company and tax law requires, which is at least six years. We keep sponsorship records for as long as the sponsorship runs and for a reasonable period afterwards, so we can answer questions about it. If you close your sponsor page we remove your login.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it where we are not required to keep it, and ask us to stop emailing you. Email admin@ourummah.uk and a person will answer you.
If you are not happy with how we have handled it, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Cookies
We do not use advertising or tracking cookies. If you have a sponsor page, we set one cookie so that you stay signed in. Signing out removes it.
