Welcome pack

Welcome to the family.

Everything about sponsoring a child at the OU Village: who we are, what your sponsorship does, and what you'll see from us every month.

01

Who we are

Our Ummah started in 2020 with a group of Muslims in the UK putting money together for one well. One well became over a hundred, in Zimbabwe, Pakistan, India and Uganda. Then a masjid in Uganda in 2021. Then hot meals and food parcels in Gaza when the border closed.

And then the OU Village. Our Ummah is a project of AR Projects CIC.

02

The OU Village

A compound in Uganda with a masjid, classrooms and dorms. The children live there and learn Qur'an, Islamic studies, English, maths and science. The first children moved in in December 2023.

92 hot meals a day are served there, breakfast and dinner.

Zulfiq runs it on the ground. He lives there with his family, alongside the teachers, a house mother, a caregiver and the cook. Jibreel runs Our Ummah from the UK and goes out every few months.

03

What your sponsorship does

£37 a month, or £444 for a year, gives one child a home at the OU Village, meals every day, and teachers for madrasa and school. Zakat is welcome: every child is an orphan or from a family in need.

You can pay by card (monthly or yearly), or by bank transfer. You can move to card at any time.

04

What you'll see every month

  • Your child's report from Zulfiq: how they are, school, and where they have reached in the Qur'an.
  • A moment with your child: a short video or photo, with a line about it.
  • A video from Jibreel and from Zulfiq about the OU Village: what's happened, and what's been hard.

All of it is on your own sponsor page at ourummah.uk/my, which works like an app on your phone. We'll email you when something new is there.

In Ramadan you can also give your child's Eid party and Eid gifts, £40 each, from your page.

05

Why we built this

We know we could have done better at staying connected. Instead of just trying harder, we built a system, so you always see what your sponsorship is doing.

06

The reward

“I and the one who looks after an orphan will be like this in Paradise.”

The Prophet ﷺ, holding two fingers together · Sahih al-Bukhari 6005
